Cellulite is the bane of 90% of women. By the time a woman reaches 30, she most likely will have some level of unsightly dimpling on the back (and sometimes the front) of her legs. And as a woman gets older, cellulite can appear on the upper arms, too.

So what can you do, besides wear maxi skirts and long pants year-round?

Here are some tips on improving the look of cellulite that I’ve personally done and can attest to:

  1. Drink a lot of water. And by a lot, I mean at least 10 glasses. This helps plump up your skin and “fill out” dimples.
  2. Use a cellulite cream with retinol (Vitamin A). Retinol has been proven to thicken the skin, thereby disguising the look of cellulite. It also helps maintain skin smoothness. Look for 100,000 IUs of vitamin A per 2-ounce jar. For best results, use 100% retinol cream with added vitamin A, C and E.
  3. Massage your thighs daily. You can do this after you apply lotion or cream. I like to use my knuckles and massage upwards. Massage helps cellulite by stimulating circulation and draining excess fluids from the fat cells trapped in between the connective fibers.
  4. Add flaxseed to your diet. This superfood helps with cellulite by supporting estrogen levels and boosting collagen growth. Collagen is the main component of connective tissue, and by strengthening the skin, it helps reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  5. Do lunges and squats. These powerful exercises strengthen multiple muscles in your legs and glutes, creating a firmer look to the skin by strengthening the muscles underneath. Try to do three sets of 12 each, two to three times a week.
  6. Reduce salt intake. Salt puffs you up and makes you retain water, which gets trapped under your skin. Pass on the salt and you’ll notice a difference!

Implement these changes, give yourself a few weeks and you’ll see a noticeable improvement. Soon, you’ll be saying, “Hello, shorts!”
