Oil is not just for cooking or for fuel. A variety of oils can improve skin health by moisturizing, tightening and providing much-needed nutrition directly to the skin. Coconut, castor and argan oils are three of the most popular oils when it comes to skin care, and with good reason: They moisturize, tighten skin and even help clear acne.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has been on everyone’s lips lately because of its multitasking quality. It can be used on skin, hair and for cooking. For skin, it purportedly clears acnes, tightens skin, conditions hair and moisturizes deeply. Apply it sparingly all over as a body moisturizer after a shower , but if that feels a little greasy to you, apply at the end of your shower, then rinse lightly. This will still leave enough coconut oil on your skin to benefit it. Let absorb completely before dressing.

Castor oil

Castor oil is one of those tried-and-true oils, having been used for ages. It can penetrate skin deeply, and it helps tighten skin when used with essential oils like lavender. Use it to cleanse skin, rub a small amount onto face, then rinse off. To tighten skin, mix a small amount with a few drops of lavender oil and apply to skin, making sure to dry completely before dressing.

Argan oil

The trendiest “it oil” organ oil is found in an array of cosmetics and body lotions. This powerhouse oil is full of antioxidants and good-for-skin ingredients like Vitamins A and E and Omega-6 fatty acids. It helps reduce acne inflammation and speeds healing of razor bumps and burn, as well as conditions hair. Use a few drops on your face as a nighttime moisturizer, in makeup (lots of highlighters contain organ oil) and in your hair as a leave-in conditioner. Argan oil can also help skin elasticity, so rub a few warm drops into stretch mark-prone areas.
